The Awesome Port City of Chittagong, once known as the Porte Grande by the Portuguese sailor-merchants, in Bangladesh, did not have a public university for long to meet the higher educational requirements of the students of Chittagong division. There was a rising need for a public university among the people of this region in which a variety of modern academics disciplines would be set up in order to acquire experienced and experienced human resources. Keeping this in view, the then Government of Pakistan determined to determine a university, to be called the University of Chittagong admission circular 2022 in the mid-sixties. The Chittagong University Library is located on the University of Chittagong Campus which was started in the month of November 1966 in a short-term building.
In 1990, the library was altered to its own building. At current, the total ground area of the library is 56, 700 ft. It is the core point of the University of Chittagong Campus having being ornamented by the halls of residence and distinct faculty buildings
Library is handled by the Library Committee containing of 14 members including Deans of all faculties in the direction by Pro-Vice-Chancellor as its Chairman. Librarian is the Member-Secretary of the committee. The committee frames guidelines and offers essential guidelines for the clean functioning of the library from time to time.
At current, the library selection comprises of about 3. 5 lakh volumes of books and over 40, 000 bound volumes of journals. There are the Reference point and Rare assortment also.
A Learning resource Center for the Visually Reduced Students has been organized in the Chittagong University Library. The Centre consists of modern library facilities for the visually bothered students of the University of Chittagong.
There are systems of book loan and inter-library loan. Library offers Current Recognition Service, Photocopy Service, CD-ROM Search Service, Internet Service, Online Journal Search Service etc.
At current, the library is the prospective subscriber of a number of most respected Online Journals, allowing searching and downloading at over 12 thousand journals to its people.

In 1990, the library was altered to its own building which is the greatest and spectacular library building in Bangladesh. It is a 2 storied building with a mezzanine floor and total floor area of the library is 56, 700 ft. It is positioned in the core point of the University Campus having been ornamented by halls of the house and different faculty buildings.
