About University of Peradeniya Admissions
700 hectares of land located on the flood plain of the Mahaweli river and the lower slopes of the Hantan range.
The developed area, known as the University Park, is about 150 hectares while the rest of the land remains afforested. The University Park is occupied by buildings of the faculties, halls of residence, staff bungalows, playing fields and places of worship. Although seasonal changes are imperceptible in the climate of the campus, most trees begin to bear flowers in early March giving the campus a touch of spring in March. Some of the campus pathways such as the Lover’s Lane and the Lower Hantana Road provide a rare aesthetic beauty through their rich foliage. A panoramic view of the campus can be obtained from the upper Hantana Road near the campus mosque. Some students walk up the bed of a tributary to the Mahaweli Ganga, Maha Oya, which runs through the Campus, affords rocky pools ideal for a bath during warm weather. However, students are generally advised to avoid bathing in the Mahaweli River for their own safety. Students also prefer to undertake hikes to the Hantana Range which requires more time and effort.
